If you're struggling to understand your child's behaviour then a sensory assessment may be just what you are looking for, but why?

The way we processing sensory information can impact on how we are feeling day to day and how we cope with different situations.

For children who have difficulty processing sensory information this may mean that they find it challenging to complete tasks independently, they may become quickly overwhelmed or avoid situations and may experience melt downs.

So how will a sensory assessment help?

A sensory assessment will identify how a child processing sensory information within each of their system.

  • Movement/balance (vestibular)

  • Body Awareness (Proprioception)

  • Touch (Tactile)

  • Sound (Auditory)

  • Taste (Gustatory)

  • Smell (Olfactory)

  • Visual

  • Internal sensations (Interoception)

Once we understand an individuals sensitivities and challenges it helps to understand what sensory information they need more of and what they need less of. It will help to understand why your child may respond in a certain way and provides a starting point for individual strategies and creating sensory environments.

This helps to provide understanding, connection and regulation.
